Immigration to Ireland

Ireland Immigration is a popular choice for immigration because of its good economy. Ireland offers an easy immigration system for skilled immigrants. Ireland is a part of the European Union; citizens of other European countries don’t need a visa to enter Ireland. But if you aren’t from European Economic Area then you’ll need to apply for a visa to enter Ireland. So, you don’t need a visa if:

  • You are a citizen of any European country
  • You have a travel document according to Article 28 of the Geneva Convention 1951 or the New York Convention of 1951. This document should be allotted by any European Economic Area member country.
  • You are a family member of a European citizen and have a resident card.

Ireland doesn’t provide point-based immigration which makes it easy for skilled immigrants to get a visa. Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland are not the same places. If you want to apply for a visa to enter Northern Ireland then you need to check the UK immigration system because Northern Ireland immigration comes under the United Kingdom system.

Ireland General Employment Permit
If you are not a member of the European Economic Area then you need a work permit for work in Ireland. You can apply for Ireland General Employment Permit if you get a job in Ireland which pays you €30,000 per year. you can apply for an employment permit or your employer can apply for it for you.
In some cases, you are allowed to apply for this employment permit even if your pay is €27,000 per year. following are the eligibility cases:

  • If you are not a member of EEA but have graduated from any of Ireland’s third-level universities or colleges and got a job from the Critical Skills Occupations List.
  • If you are a specialist in any language and applying for sales or technical support but the company you are applying for should have the State enterprise development agencies’ support.

But your pay should be at least €30,000 per year for employment permit renewal. Ireland General Employment Permit allows you to stay in Ireland for 2 years and you can extend it to 3 years. You can file a long-term resident application after completing your five years in Ireland. Before applying for the permit, you must have a job offer from an Ireland company, qualifications, and experience. you can apply for an employment permit or your employer can apply for it for you. The employer should have the Company Registration Office and Revenue registration. According to a Labor Market Needs Test, the advertisement of the job should be advertised to the workers within EEA first. After advertising the jobs to the EEA workers then it should be offered to those who are not a member of EEA country. There are some conditions where Labor Market Needs Test doesn’t apply:

  • If you have already worked for an Irish company and had a work permit.
  • If the job offer is on Ireland’s Critical Skills Occupations List.
  • If you got the recommendation from Enterprise Ireland or IDA Ireland.
  • If the job offers €60,000 per year.
  • If you are a caregiver and already provided care to the recipient.

Ireland Critical Skills Employment Permit
You can apply for Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit if the job pays €60,000 per year or €30,000 /year If the job you are applying for is on Ireland’s Highly Skilled Occupations. After getting Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit, you can stay in Ireland for 2 years. You can stay there permanently after filing a stamp 4 application. You can work in Ireland permanently after getting stamp 4. It should be mentioned in the job contract that a permit will be issued for two years. Before applying for the permit, you must have a job offer from an Ireland company, qualifications, and experience. you can apply for an employment permit or your employer can apply for it for you. Labor Market Needs Test doesn’t apply in the Irish Critical Skills Employment Permit scheme.
Irish Start-Up Entrepreneur Visa Programme
In 2012, Irish Start-Up Entrepreneur Visa Programme has started by the Irish government. It allows businessmen to apply for a visa to start a business in Ireland. If you are a businessman and want to invest and start a business in Ireland then you can apply for Irish Start-Up Entrepreneur Visa. You should have a minimum of €50,000 funds for the business. You can either start a new business or move the old one to Ireland to introduce your services or products. you can also apply for a temporary resident permit. Following are the eligibility criteria for Irish Start-Up Entrepreneur Visa Program:

  • Your business plan should be innovative or new.
  • If you are moving your old business to Ireland, you should be working on that business for at least 6 years before applying for a visa.
  • Your business should produce €1,000,000 of sales in 3 to 4 years.
  • You should have a minimum of €50,000 funds for the business.
  • You need to hire experienced managers for your business.

For applying for this program, you should have health insurance, financial funding proof, a clear criminal record, and a business plan which should be written according to the Irish Naturalization and Immigration Service website’s template. You can also apply for a visa for your family members. If you want to renew your permit then your business should be running successfully. Evaluation Committee will assess your business success. If the report is positive then you can get three years extension for your permit. You can also renew your visa for five years after three years of extension. You can apply for naturalization after staying for 8 years in Ireland.

Immigrant Investor Programme
If you are a non-EEA member and want to invest in Ireland then you can apply for Immigrant Investor Programme (IIP). You must have €1 million funds for investment and these funds should belong to investors. The funds should not be financed via loan. The government doesn’t take responsibility for investment. The investor and concerned party are fully responsible for the profit and loss. you should have health insurance, financial funding proof, a clear criminal record, and a net worth of €2 million.

Ireland Immigration
Family Visa
If you are a family member of an Irish resident and want to join your family in Ireland then you can apply for a family visa. If you decide to stay with your Irish national or non-Irish or non-EEA family member for more than 3 months then you can apply for a long-stay visa. If your family member is UK national and living in Ireland then you can apply via preclearance or visa scheme. If your family member is a European citizen and living in Ireland then you can apply for “a Family Member of a Union Citizen Residence Card”. You can also apply for the Afghan Admission Program if your family member living in Ireland is Afghan national.
Irish Citizenship
If your parents or grandparents are Irish nationals then you can apply for Irish citizenship. You can register yourself in Foreign Births Register. If you are staying in the states or Ireland Island or spouse of an Irish citizen then you can apply for citizenship through naturalization. If you got accepted for naturalization then you are invited to a naturalization ceremony to give you a naturalization certificate. The age limit for applying for citizenship is 18 years but in some cases under 18 years is also accepted.
